Imphal, July 10:
Discontentment is brewing among the jawans of 1st IRB and 3rd IRB over the decision of Government for shifting the battalions to new locations which do not have the required infrastructures.
Demanding review and revocation of the Government order for shifting the battalions, the infuriated IRB personnel also warned of launching the 2nd sepoy mutiny.
According to press sources, DGP had issued an order for shifting the 1st and 3rd IRB, which are presently stationed within the Kangla Fort to Churachandpur and Thoubal districts respectively.
The whole exercise is part of the ongoing process of demilitarizing Kangla Fort.
However, the jawans contended that the new locations where they are to be transferred do not have any of the basic infrastructure.
Barrack of the personnel, sentry post, mess and toilet facilities, recreation rooms, quarters and offices of the ministerial staff are yet to be constructed at these proposed locations, the jawans said, wondering how they are going to render their service at the new place of posting in such a situation.
They said there would be no fear or objection if they were shifted anywhere else, provided there are basic infrastructure.
It may be noted here that the 1st IRB was established in 1994, and even while construction of a proper battalion at Narenseina was being taken up, the whole company was shifted to Kangla Fort.
When the 2nd IRB was also raised in 1999, no proper location for setting up the battalion had been allotted.
