Solution to the ongoing agitation of the part-time lecturers continues to be elusive even as the second round of talks between representatives of All manipur Government Hr Sec Part Time Lecturers� Association and State Government officials held today ended without an agreement.
The meeting held at the Chief Minister's office chamber was also attended by representatives of student bodies like Desam, MSF and Atsum, said a statement of the lecturer's Association while adding that the agitation completed 11 days today.
strongly condemning the indifferent attitude of the State authorities, the Association said its demands would not be of much burden to the Government as it concerns merely insisting for payment of minimum basic pay that is liable to any person dispensing its duties for the Government.
Any assurances other than a written pledge from the Government side would not be acceptable to the agitators and would rather prefer to ceaselessly agitate rather compromise its stance, asserted the Association statement.
Continuing with its agitation eighth batch of the Association launched fast unto death at the entrance gate of Edn (S) Minister Yumnam Mani Singh's Yum nam Huidrom residence today where six agitators have been picked up by the State police.
The arrested part-time lecturers are L Vivekananda Singh (Thangton hr Sec School), Sahibur Rahman (Lilong Hr Sec), SA Qadir (Lilong), Th Nandashyam (Khangjillu), Th Surjabal Khuman (Nambol) and A Naba Singh (Lamlong).
With today's detention the total number of part-time lecturers picked up and sent to jail till date have reached 101 including 15 female.
Among the female is a woman who left behind at her home an infant still requiring breast feeding, informed the Association.
Meanwhile, endorsing the contribution of the part time lecturers and pledging moral support to their agitation a meeting of office bearers of All Manipur Government Hr Sec Lecturers' Welfare Association held at TG Hr Sec Sch-ool today resolved to constitute a body to hold talks with State Government representatives for a speedy solution to the lingering problem of the part-timers.
Pointing out that part time lecturers alone are de-dicatedly dispensing their duties at several Hr Sec schools in the State the Association fervently appealed to the State Government for an amicable solution within June 1 as academic sessions of most higher secondaries are to commence from June 3/4.Extending its unwavering support to the agitation of the Government higher secondary part-time lecturers All Manipur Government College Part Time Lecturers' Welfare Association urged the Government for not only a temporary solution to the problem but also to make necessary rectification to avert similar problems in future.
