Imphal, May 27:
Kingsutlin Kom aged 50 (at the time of disappearance), a farmer by profession from Zangthingphai village under Churachandpur dist is one among the many who have been missing without any trace after being picked up by security forces.
As reported, Kingsutlin and his wife Leivonthem Kom were staying in a rented house at Koirengei, Imphal for his wife's medical treatment, when on April 28 1995 a combined team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed in Manipur and some unknown persons barged into their rented house at around 3 pm and thrashed him and even threatened to kill him if he reported about the assault to anyone.
The same personnel returned again the next evening at around 7 and forcibly took him away after beating him and ransacking his room without furnishing any reasons for his arrest to his wife Leivonthem.
The armed personnel once again warned Leivonthem Kom not to tell anybody about the arrest of her husband.
Following the arrest, Leivonthem Kom approached the CRPF authorities stationed at Langjing with regard to her husband's arrest but all her complaint fell on deaf ears.
She then submitted a written report to the OC of Heingang PS, copies of which were submitted to the then Chief Minister of Manipur, Secretary general of the National Human Rights Commission at New Delhi and the Director General of Police at Imphal but without any effect.
As a result, she filed a Habeas Corpus petition at the Guwahati High Court Imphal bench on May 1995.However the case is still pending with the perpetrators of the crime still remaining unpunished even after nine years, she said.
