Imphal, May 27:
Expressing serious concern over alleged denial of right to education to students living in and around Sajik Tampak area following occupation of the schools by Army personnel, various student bodies have warned of taking up strong agitation if the State Government not take up measures for allowing prevalence of academic atmosphere in these areas within June 10.A joint meeting of the representatives of four student organisations, namely All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM), Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Manipur, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) and Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) was held today to discuss the issue.
The meeting strongly felt that denial of right to education for the last one month to the students studying in schools located in and around Sajik Tampak following Army occupation of the areas as well as the school buildings is very unfortunate and held the State Government squarely responsible for the plight of the affected students.
The student bodies also warned of launching serious agitation if the Government do not take up any measures within June 6 for allowing normal functioning of the school in the said areas.
MSF alleges: Alleging that National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) centres running in Manipur have taken Rs 250 each from the students while issuing certificates besides another amount ranging from Rs 400 to Rs 600 for practical examination, Manipuri Students' Federation has directed at the concerned authorities of the centres to come and furnish detail reports of the matter to its office.
Referring to the advertisement bringing out by some NIOS centres for admission for the session starting from September/October, the students' body has also asked the concerned NIOS centres to provide valid document as to allowing them to start the new session.
