A gun fight ensued between troops of 1 Assam Rifles and MPA cadres of the UNLF when the latter attacked the AR camp at Nambisha in Ukhrul district on November 22.In a statement, the PRO of Assam Rifles said that suspected UNLF cadres fired towards the AR camp at Nambisha post from the Pastor's House and from two places near the village Church on November 22 at about 12.15 am.
The firing continued for about 8/10 minutes, said the PRO and added that about 10 lethode bombs were used by the militants.
The AR troops also retaliated and the militants fled.
The AR troops excercised caution keeping in mind the safety of the civilians, asserted the PRO and added that there is no casualty on the part of the troops.
The spokesman of the UNLF also informed the press that MPA cadres attacked the AR post located at Nambisha in Kasom sub-division of Ukhrul district on November 21 at about 11.45 pm.
The spokesman said that the MPA cadres used sophisticated weapons such as 79 MM shells, 2-inch mortar etc and added that substantive damage was caused to the camp.
The security personnel too must have suffered heavy casualties, said the spokesman.
However since the attack was launched in the dead of the night and in complete darkness, there is no official confirmation of any death or injuries caused to the security forces.
MPA cadres also attacked the camp of security personnel at a place known as Aishi Khunman in Sajik Tampak area, said the spokesman and added that since the camp was destroyed, the security forces have rushed in additional force.
Till now reinforcements are being sent into the areas dominated by the 293 Bn of the MPA, added the spokesman.
