The UNIDEP Campaign Committee, in an act of endorsing its message of unity, peace and equitable development, has reached out to the marginalised and remote villagers of G Gamkhajol village located near the Indo-Myanmar border in Saikot Assembly segment of Churachandpur district.
There the UNIDEP Campaign Committee provided relief material to the villagers whose houses were reduced to cinders in an inferno.
Out of just 15 households settled in the hamlet, five houses were reduced to ashes in an inferno that broke out at about 3 pm of March 17.Members of the UNIDEP Campaign Committee constituted by AMUCO, AMESCO, AMAWOVA, MEPWAK, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur and other social organisations went to G Gamkhajol village and handed over the relief material to the villagers.
Besides two bags (50 kgs) of rice given to each devastated family, the Committee members distributed dishes, bowls, mugs etc according to the number of family members.
Moreover dals and edible salts were also distributed to the villagers.
The relief material distribution function was graced by chief of Gamkhajol village Letkhosei Guite, advisor of AMUCO Dr Y Mani and president of KHUKAMPAL W Maipak Devi.
Speaking on the occasion, secretary general of AMUCO NC Khuman assured that the UNIDEP Campaign Committee would stand firm by the villagers in hard times.
Even though the relief material are of not much monetary value, NC Khuman remarked that the little help provided by the UNIDEP Campaign Committee is a token of its love and concern for the villagers marginalised and ignored by the State Government.
Assuring that the Committee would extend all possible help, he appealed to the villagers not to leave their native village.
He also called upon the G Gamkhajol villagers to take part in bringing unity, development and peace throughout Manipur.
Addressing the simple function, chief of Gamkhajol village Letkhosei Guite remarked that the relief material provided by the UNIDEP Committee may be bought from markets but their love for the villagers preceding this noble act is something invaluable, something that cannot be bought with any amount of money.
Further, the UNIDEP Campaign Committee provided the same amount of relief material to two families of T Khongkhai village whose houses were gutted on March 7 this year.
