Imphal, April 22:
The bodies of both the mother and the child who died in the Gynae ward of RIMS yesterday have been taken away by the bereaved family members for conducting the last rites after post-mortem today.
Before agreeing to take back the bodies of Samjetsabam Ongbi Premila (26) and her new born daughter, a joint meeting between the bereaved family members and RIMS authority was held to discuss the matter.
RIMS Director Prof L Fimate and Medical Superintendent Y Mohen were among the officials of RIMS who attended the meeting.
Some of the main points agreed during the meeting reportedly include conduct of a departmental inquiry into the incident from the side of the RIMS authority, taking up action against the doctors if found guilty and non-interference from the side of RIMS authority if the Government has to initiate judicial inquiry into the incident.
After arriving at an understanding on these points, the family members agreed to take back the bodies after conducting the post mortem, according to information received by the press.
The source disclosed that various intense agitations would be launched if the agreement is not translated into action.
It may be noted that the after the child was delivered naturally, the mother and the child passed away and the delivery case was conducted by a team of doctors including some well known
and highly regarded doctors.
