The twin indefinite bandh called by the JAC Against the Brutal Killing of Maharabam Rajen Singh of Awang Sekmai and the Naga People's Organisation (NPO), Senapati district along the National Highway 39 have been relaxed for some days in view of the upcoming Christmas celebration.
According to a statement issued by the president of the JAC A Shanti Devi, decision to relax the bandh has been taken in consideration of the appeal made by Christian community in connection with Christmas celebration.
Maharabam Rajen, was shot dead by unidentified person at the courtyard of his house on December 13 .
The JAC called the indefinite bandh along the National Highway with effective from December 18 as the State Government failed to take up necessary steps inspite of submitting memorandum to the Chief Minister in this regard.
Decrying the conduct of the Chief Minister in describing the victim as an activist of the proscribed PREPAK as irresponsible, the JAC has also sought the continued support and co-operation of civil organisations, Meira Paibis and all the people in the future course of action to be taken up by the JAC.
On the other hand, announcing relaxation of the indefinite bandh from midnight of December 23 to midnight of December 26 to ensue peaceful celebration of the Christmas in the State, general secretary of NPO Senapati district Simon Chawang has also extended Christmas greeting to all the communities of Manipur.
NPO has called the bandh in pursuance of its demand for transferring Deputy Commissioner of Senapati Nidhi Kesarwani from the district.
