In retaliatory fire by Bishnupur police commandos, one suspected UG cadre was killed at Ngaikhong Siphai Mamang Patton, about 7 kms North East of Bishnupur police station at around 5.46 pm today.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by PIB (DW) informed that the UG cadre was killed during a joint operation conducted by troops of 15 JAKLI and Bishnupur police commandos.
The deceased was a cadre of PREPAK, it claimed.
The joint operation was launched acting on confirmed information that three PREPAK cadres have been harassing and extorting money from the villagers of the area.
As the security personnel closed in around a hut, the UGs opened fire from inside.
In the ensuing firing, one UG was killed while the other managed to escape taking advantage of darkness, it added.
One 9 mm pistol and four live rounds were recovered from the slain cadre.
The body has been picked up by Bishnupur police and deposited at RIMS mortuary.
