Imphal, December 15:
Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Khengjoi Block has expressed deep concern over the prevailing law and order situation in Khengjoi area.
After several appeals not to plant landmines, it is disheartening to hear that yet another incident of IED blast occurred on December 9 killing one Yamkithang Haokip (45) s/o late Thongthang Haokip of New Samtal village under Molcham Police Station, Chakpikarong sub-division, Chandel district, secretary general of the students' body Jamlet Haokip lamented.
In a statement issued to the press, Jamlet informed that the body of Yamkithang Haokip still lies unattended as restrictions were imposed on taking back the body.
As per reliable source, another IED blast which occurred on December 12 also claimed the life of woman from Phoilen village whose identity remains unconfirmed, the student body said, adding that the identity of the woman could not be confirmed as the local volunteers and villagers do not dare to venture outside their villages for fear of being the next victim.
It is a matter of deep concern as human life has become cheap in this part of the State, the student body said, adding that it has been monitoring the charges and counter charges being made between the undergrounds operating in Khengjoi area and the security forces.
There were reports of civilians being tortures, killed and displaced from both sides and no one seems responsible for these barbaric acts.
Reports of security forces liberating one village after another and the counter charges of the UGs that the civilian are being protected from the draconian acts of the security forces are the two big shields at the moment.
But the lives of innocent civilians still remains insecure and the death toll rising inspite of the efforts of UGs and SF to liberate and save the lives of civilians, the student body rued.
The student body, at the same time, has also thanked the 26 AR Sector Commander and his team for deactivating the landmines planted in Khengjoi area.
The student body has also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh for having fulfilled the long cherished dreams of the people of Khengjoi by laying the foundation stone of Khengjoi TD Block yesterday.
Over and above this, the student body has also thanked BDO Khengjoi for distributing kerosene oil at various centres under Khengjoi block.
