Imphal, November 12 2008:
Ex-MLA of Keishamthong Assembly constituency Laisom Ibomcha has joined the BJP along with two Councillors and four ex-Councillors of the constituency today.
The Councillors and ex-Cuncillors who have joined the BJP Manipur State are Ward No 2 Councillor Meisnam Joychandra, Ward No 12 Councillor Nameirakpam Mema Devi, ex-Councillors Khangembam Budha and Khoisnam Budha and former MPP president of Keishamthong A/C Thangjam Saratchandra.
Welcoming the new entrants to the party, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Dr Haobam Borbabu organised a press meet at the party office today.
Addressing the press meet, Dr Borbabu blamed the SPF Government for not working sincerely to end the economic blockade being imposed by the Senapati District Students' Association along NH 39 .
Observing that the prolonged economic blockade is causing severe hardships to the people like scarcity of essential commodities and price hike and also in the movement of people, Borbabu appealed to the student body lift the economic blockade at he earliest.
Accusing the Government of doing nothing to ensure regular power supply, availability of potable water and most other basic requirements, the BJP Manipur Pradesh president alleged that Congress party has been scheming to tarnish the image of BJP.
He said that BJP condemns 'such policy' of the Congress.
Ex-MLA Laisom Ibomcha said that he thought of staying away from politics for good after quitting MPP on August 13 last year.
But several factors like the killing of at least 2/3 people almost on daily basis, the increasing number of widows, and the irresponsible Government allegedly neck-deep in corruption impelled me to rejoin politics, he confided.
Stating that BJP is the only party which can fight Congress, Ibomcha disclosed that his determination to fight Congress drove him to join BJP.
He further asserted that BJP is not a communal party.
