Imphal, October 11 2009:
Alleging lack of transparency and ambiguity in the Government's order and subsequent process for recruitment of Primary Teachers under Autonomous District Councils, activists of Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong (TKS) staged protest demonstrations at five examination centres of Ukhrul district today.
Altogether 2037 candidates of Ukhrul district appeared in the written test held at five centres located at Ukhrul district headquarters.
The written test was held amidst restrictions imposed under Section 144 of CrPC.

Just about 30 minutes into the examination, TKS members marched towards examination centres holding effigies of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, TD Minister DD Thaisii and CEO of Ukhrul ADC Ningam Chamroy.
However, they were blocked by police and MR personnel at Phungreitang near Maringmei Memorial School.
After a heated altercation there, the protesters marched on.
As they approached Ukhrul ADC office, additional security forces rushed in.
The security forces snatched the effigies and eventually drove back the protesters.
Later speaking to media persons at his office, TKS president Wungnaoshang A Shimray said that TKS has no objection to recruitment of Primary Teachers for ADCs. However, the recruitment process of the Government and the relevant authority lacked transparency and was ambiguous besides nullifying the term autonomy.
The insertion of general, OBC and other conditional changes of the Government amounted to forfeiting the rights of the tribals, Wungnaoshang alleged.
He said that TKS strongly condemned the alleged attempt of the Ibobi-led-Government to usurp the rights of the tribals guaranteed by the Constitution of India.
Until and unless the charter of demands made by TKS regarding recruitment of Primary Teachers is fulfilled, TKS would not cooperate in upcoming recruitment procedure including DPC.
The TKS president added that necessary preparations have been made to take up all possible measures while keeping a strict surveillance on the recruitment process.
