Imphal, October 11 2009:
All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation (AMSGO) is convening a meeting of the guardians of students on October 14 to thrash out the issue pertaining to the likely lost of students' career against the backdrop of the class boycott call by three students' unions as a part of the agitation against the Khwairamband incident and to further the people's demand.
Addressing media persons today at its head office located at Palace Compound here, advisor of AMSGO, N Tomba noted that it has been more than a month now that schools remain closed in the wake of the class boycott call issued by AMSU on September 9 last - which was later joined by the MSF and KSA.
He observed that the class boycott stir has affected mostly of students in Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
He said, a meeting of the guardians will be held on October 14 at 10 am at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen to discuss and sort out mechanisms to ensure the resume of normal classes.
Saying that the agitation launched by the students' bodies against the daily fake encounter killings and violation of right to life is warranted, Tomba also observed that the agitation is not launched to show that the students do not want to learn.
He said, it is just to add strength and weight to the people's demand for justice and rights.
He however said that prolong class boycott agitation could affect the retardation of development in the long run.
He noted that it would be hard to recover the already lost days.
Holding the present government responsible for the ongoing chaos in the state, Tomba said, situation has come to such a pass due to the failure of the government to handle the issue sincerely.
He appealed all guardians to attend the meeting.
