Imphal, October 11 2009:
India's popular percussionist Anandan Sivamani who works with Oscar-winner A.R.Rahman in Slumdog Millionaire is willing to perform with Manipur-based King of Naga folk blues Guru Rewben Mashangba in the days to come.
The ace Indian drummer who is preparing for an international tour with A.R.Rahman conveyed this to Guru Rewben in their recent meeting in New Delhi after their performance in Rajasthan's sun city Jodhpur.
"He (Sivamani) even presented this (drum sticks) to my son Saka in presence of Jodhpur Maharaj", State Kala Akademi awardee Guru Rewben, showing a pair of drum sticks, told this reporter on Sunday.

Sivamani who received his first big break when he played drums for the hit Bollywood number, Mehbooba Mehbooba met Guru Rewben and his eigt year-old Saka at the Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF) recently.
Sivamani performed at Club Mehran in a late night jam session with folk percussionists from Rajasthan and UK-based beat boxer Jason Singh at Mehrangarh Fort while Guru Rewben and Saka in an early morning session.
Being the lone folk music performer from north east India in the RIFF at Jodhpur, the crowd which include hundreds of tourists across the world appreciated the Guru Rewben Mashangva's move to revive the 'dying' traditional tribal folk music especially the variety sung by his own Tangkhul community in Manipur which swears by contemporary western rock and pop music.
"Our folk songs from the villages are on the verge of extinction because of changing lifestyles and absence of written texts etc"Guru Rewben who had been performing folk music since the last 25 years said.
This 48 year old Tangkhul folk guru also plays acoustic guitar on traditional folk tune or rhythm besides his hand-made traditional folk fiddle Tingtila (or Pena) and four hole flute Yangkahui on stage.
His mission is to preserve the folk songs for years through his creativity in this era of identity.
"I tried my best to win the hearts of youngsters so that our folk music could be saved from extinction", says the folk guru who adapted the age-old Naga folk songs handed down the generations by word of mouth to Bob Dylan-type blues and ballad rhythms.
