Accepting the proposal of the Meitei National Front, the Manipur University authority has decided to open a Chair on Maichou Chingu Khongnangthaba in the Department of Manipuri.
Conveying this to the Meitei National Front, MU Registrar Dr RK Ranjan Singh has sent a written intimation asking for a deposit of Rs 75 lakhs to meet the expenses towards salary and other component of the Chair.
The sum is to be submitted in the form of a Bank Draft in favour of the Registrar, MU.
The basic pay of the Professor to be appointed to the Chair has been fixed at Rs 16,400 while the total emoluments per month works out to Rs 32,761 including DA, SCA, HRA and TA.
Moreover MU has also decided to instal a statue of the Maichou at the North Western side of Centenary Hall near the Eastern bank of the Chandranadi river.
The MNF has been asked to invite public opinion through the print and electronic media whether the appearance of the proposed statue is acceptable to all sections of society.
A report may then be submitted to the University before the MoU with MU is entered into for installing the statue.
Speaking to newsmen, president of MNF Ch Akaba today said that they have agreed to all the proposals of MU and added that efforts will be taken up to open the Chair and appoint a full fledged Professor before the next academic session starts.
