Imphal, December 05:
The fracas surrounding the election to the post of the MPP president following a complaint filed against the candidacy of AK Sanaton by another candidate has taken a turn for the worse with the State Returning Officer submitting a written intimation to the present president to resolve the impasse.
Even as the impasse over the election is still on, the general secretary (administration) of the party and one of the candidates, Ksh Brajamani has reportedly appointed two mem- bers to the post of secretary while acknowledgement notices have been served on three other members.
Following the latest rounds of unsavoury incidents, MPP leaders are unable to sit at the party's office.
According to a reliable source, the SRO M Binodkumar today submitted a signed application to the president of the party to resolve the election fracas as he is unable to do so.
The SRO has not been conferred any power by the Election rules of the party to take an independent decision to resolve the impasse, said the source and added that the SRO made it clear that it would be for the good of the party to resolve the impasse over the nomination papers filed by AK Sanaton.
After submitting the application, the SRO has reportedly taken leave even before the election process is yet to be finalised.
Giving a boost to the prospect of Sanaton, the office assistant L Imobi has written that the sum of Rs 6,447 meant for building construction is in his possession and not with Sanaton as charged by another candidate L Borajao.
It was this allegation that had led to the impasse in the first place.
Adding to the turmoil within the party was the nomination of two members of the party by the general secretary Kh Brajamani even though he is in the fray and the election process is yet to be finalised.
The two members appointed as secretaries are Ch Iboyaima of Heingang AC and L Birenyaima of Nambol AC.
MPP workers said that the appointment order issued violates the Constitution of the party an their appointment cannot be accepted.
The general secretary also issued acknowledgement letters to three other members today.
The members have been named as L Gosai, S Dilip and O Jugindro.
