Loktak Lift Irrigation Project (LLI) which has been lying defunct for the last many years was made functional again by the IFCD Minister N Mangi today by releasing the water from the pump house No I located at Ningthoukhong.
It may be noted here that the total command area under the project is estimated to be about 24,000 hectares.
The water from the project was released through the Imphal Main canal which is about 10 Kms long and is estimated to irrigate about 1400 hectares.
Water was also released through the Moirang Low Level canal with a machine and is expected to provide irrigation facilities to about 2000 hectares of agricultural land.
Speaking at the project site today, Minister IFCD N Mangi stated that the benefits provided by water to mankind is something which cannot be replace any other matter.
He also added that 1.7 MW of power is required for the two canals per month which is about Rs 1.84 crores.
Appealing to the farmers to pay their water taxes regularly, Minister Mangi informed that the water taxes for Paddy No 1 (Feb to June) is Rs 150 per hectare, paddy No II (June to Oct) Rs 75 per hectare and Rabi (Oct to Feb) is Rs 45 per hectare.
