A division bench of the Gauhati High Court has dismissed three different jail term appeals filed by three different convicted persons who had already been sentenced to life imprisonment.
Upon such dismissals, the three would further languish in the jails for life.
Justice PG Agarwal and SK Kar made the verdicts on different dates during the current week.
The first appeal was filed by convict Thoidingjam Madhurjit Singh s/o Th Tomba Singh of Uripok Achom Leikai, a rifleman in 8th MR said Additional Public Prosecutor (High Court) Ch Bidyamani Devi who appeared on behalf of the State Govt.� By wielding his service weapon, he shot dead Chakpikarong PS OC L Nilakanta at the same PS on Oct 10 1988.After being tried Madhurjit was sentenced to life imprisonment by the sessions judge, Manipur West on July 16, 1997.He filed the sentence order before the High court.
The high Court dismissed his appeal yesterday.� The second jail appeal was filed by convict Sandam Tomba of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai against his life term sentence passed by the Session judge, Manipur East on June 14 1998 after he was found guilty for stabbing to death one Yendrambam Joy Singh on Jan 31 1995.The High Court dismissed his appeal on Feb 25.
