Imphal, October 26:
Setting the tone for the upcoming Assembly election, Chief Minister O Ibobi adopted an offensive stance and said that the regional political parties are likely to enlist the services of anti-social elements and mar the poll proceedings to grab power at any cost and urged the people to be guard against such forces.
Speaking at the district level cum Block Level Congress Workers Conference at the Komlathabi community hall at Chandel today, the Chief Minister said that a number of regional political parties have come together with just an eye on the coming election.
The coming together of the regional parties is purely for their own personal interest and not for the interest of the people, he asserted.
The Chief Minister further said that the regional parties which have come together with an eye on grabbing power may take the help of anti-social elements and as such the people need to be on their toes to check such mischievous elements.
Urging the gathering to back and support the Congress in the next election, the Chief Minister said that if the public extend their co-operation and ensure that the Congress is able to form a Government on its own, then it would be able to address the numerous issues besetting the State successfully and peacefully.
The Congress workers too have an immense responsibility towards this end, he added.
After the Congress led UPA Government came to power at Delhi, the financial condition of the State started improving, said the Chief Minister and added that since then the SPF Govt has been able to take up development programmes in the hill districts.
To ensure that the projects initiated are completed in good time, it is important for the people to ensure that the Congress is able to form a Government on its own, added Ibobi.
Spelling out promises ahead of the election, the Chief Minister said that funds have been sanctioned to instal one 132 KV power station each at Joupi and Machi in Chandel district.
A sum of Rs 18 crores each have also been earmarked to construct the living quarters of medical staff, para-medical staff and teachers posted in the hill districts, added O Ibobi.
The State Congress unit and SPF Government have invited AICC chief Sonia Gandhi to visit Manipur before the election, informed the Chief Minister.
Gandhi will be urged to announce the upgradation of the NHs into four lanes as well as to to construct road connecting at district Hqs.
