Imphal, March 18 2012:
The Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has found the stretch of road from Kaiphundai to Tousem in a pathetic condition inspite of the fact that funds were drawn for the development of the road.
The students' body has conducted an inspection tour of the road in pursuance of resolutions adopted at its Dimki (Assembly) session on March 15-16 at Tousem subdivision headquarters.
In a statement, ZSUM conveyed that the Dimki session at Tousem resolved to look into the matter of bringing about drastic changes and development.
The students' body has also inspected Government primary and high schools.
ZSUM pointed out that the schools were run by few teachers with most of them being found absent.
On the other hand, the lone Government High School is said to be facing the problem of shortage of teaching staff.
It has only seven teachers appointed for the school.
The students' body has also learnt that the Police Station at Tamei subdivisional headquarters has no police personnel posted in its station since long.
The locals do not get adequate power and water supply either, further said ZSUM.
Drawing the attention of the Government departments concerned, ZSUM further warned that the officials concerned should be held responsible for any outcome arising out of the situation.
The Dimki session also resolved to ban the seismic survey launched by the Alfa Geo (India) Pvt Ltd in the Zeliangrong area.
