Imphal, March 18 2012:
Trinamool Congress has formally announced today that Dr I Ibohalbi has been elected its legislature wing leader.
The formal announcement was made at a meeting of the party's MLAs held at Hotel Imphal today.
The meeting further agreed to appoint Kh Joykishan as the party's chief whip and Th Bishwajit as the deputy leader.
Notably, seven Trinamool Congress candidates were elected in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election held recently.
The elected MLAs were accorded a warm reception by district level and block level workers at Hotel Imphal this afternoon.
Speaking at the occasion, the MLAs pledged to consolidate and strengthen the party's position in the State.
Saying that seven MPs of All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) are currently holding ministerial portfolios in the UPA Government, the MLAs assured that they would do what is best for the people in collaboration with the AITC Union Ministers though they would sit on the Opposition bench in the State Assembly.
They claimed that Trinamool Congress is only second to INC in terms of enjoying people's faith as shown by the poll results.
Even though the people of Manipur have been yearning for a change, it still remains unclear what exactly is the change the people have been looking for.
Observing that Congress have captured 42 seats, the TC MLAs remarked that this was not a healthy sign.
The political scenario unfolding at the Centre is also not encouraging.
Speaking at the reception function, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress president Kim Gangte maintained that people were not happy when 42 Congress MLAs were elected.
People are eagerly awaiting what Trinamool Congress MLAs would do in the State Assembly, she asserted.
The Trinamool Congress candidates elected in the recent Assembly elections are K Sarat (Konthoujam AC), Th Bishwajit (Thongju), Dr Ibohalbi (Oinam), M Kunjo (Hiyanglam), Kh Joykishan (Thangmeiband), O Lukhoi (Wangoi) and Th Shyamkumar (Andro) .
