Imphal, March 18 2012:
Twenty-two year old Fajillatun d/o (L) Kasim Ali of Lilong Turel Ahanbi has alleged severe atrocities by her boy-friend and the latter's family members to such an extent that she had to abort her baby conceived out of wedlock.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Fajillatun said she and one Md Munir Khan (32) s/o Md Rahimu-ddin from her own locality fell in love in February 2008 .
After she got pregnant out of wedlock both decided to elope on February 18, 2012 and stayed the night at the Yaripok residence of one of Munir Khan's friends during which the boyfriend suggested that she abort the child.
Even after taking her to his house, Munir Khan on February 21 insisted that she abort the child which was rejected by Fajillatun resulting in the boyfriend assaulting her.
Fajillatun further claimed that on February 22 night at a round 10.30, Munir Khan's family members tied and gagged her while a local quack, whom she identified as Nahakhomei alias Essamuddin, used brute force to terminate her pregnancy.
With Munir Khan and his family members also joining in the raw abortion procedures, Fajillatun said she felt sick and weak for days before she was asked to append her signature on a paper which Munir Khan told her was the divorce document following an agreement with her parents.
Her ordeal continued even after returning home for she was not only told by her parents that they have no knowledge about the agreement for divorce, but was also asked to stay away from their sight on the ground that she tarnished image of the family.
At the time of taking shelter at her friend's residence she was advised to air her grievances to NGOs which she reportedly complied and narrated her traumatic experiences to members of All India Youth Federation, Imphal West unit and all India Working Women's Forum, Manipur.
Feeling weak and deterioration in health, Fajillatun said she went for medical check-up at Raj Polyclinic in North AOC on February 25 wherein the consulting doctor revealed about miscarriage of the baby.
Fajillatun said the foetus was removed on February 26 at the same private medical centre from where she was discharged three days later.
Besides confiding that she has filed a complaint at a court against Munir Khan and his family members who were involved in assaulting her, she appealed to all concerned to extend cooperation in her fight for justice against cruelty to women.
