Following the crash message sent by the State Epidemiologist Dr Th Biren Singh to all district authorities and MO in charge of Moreh and Jiribam CHCs on April 5 to be on alert against SARS, the medical authorities have responded by deploying health personnel at entry check points at Mao Gate and Moreh and other district HQ.
This was disclosed to The Sangai Express by Dr Th Biren Singh who has also been appointed as State Level Nodal Officer to check the killer disease.
Stating that checking the disease is a must in airport as done across the world, Dr Biren also disclosed that they would in no time send official intimation for checking SARS in Imphal Airport.
On reports of the disease spreading in neighboring Myanmar, he said that according to the latest report of the World Health Organization, there has been no case of SARS, in Myanmar.
A letter sent from the authorities of the Ministry of Health to the State authorities stated that efforts were being made by ICMR to procure diagnostic kits for SARS through WHO, he also said.
So far there has been no report of any suspected case of SARS in Manipur, Dr Biren also said.
Mention may be made that the JN Hospital has already set up a special cell consisting of nine doctors as a preparatory measure to meet any emergency in the event of any possible outbreak of SARS which has been declared by WHO as "worldwide health threat".
Dr Biren and his teams are studying the updated reports of SARS from WHO through the internet.
2284 villages electrified: 2284 villages have so far been electrified in the State till March 24, 2003 and this includes the six villages that were electrified during 2002-2003, informed a report of the Electricity Dept.
The report further added that revenue of Rs 20.4349 crores was collected during the year (2002-03) which included Rs 25.2576 crores from sale of energy and Rs 0.1773 crores from miscellaneous sources.
