The two accused are identified as Head Clerk in ZEO Chandel, SP Wangthoi Anal (67) of Chakpikarong and LDC in Lilong Higher Secondary School, Md Abdul Hakim (61) of Lilong Turel Ahanbi.
Parading SP Wangthoi Anal and Md Abdul Hakim at a place in Imphal West district today afternoon before the media, PREPAK spokesperson Tiger said that following information of rampant corruption and irregularities in the Education Department, the outfit has been keeping a sharp vigil.
During the course of investigation, the outfit discovered that SP Wangthoi and Md Abdul Hakim in connivance with one Md Fidor of Lilong Bazar withdrew Rs 4.58 lakhs belonging to six teachers working in some schools under ZEO Chandel.
Quoting statements of the two accused who were pulled up today, Tiger disclosed that GPF amount was withdrawn last year without any knowledge of the teachers concerned.
Warning Fidor to surrender to the outfit within two days, the spokesman informed that the three accused will be asked to reimburse the exact amount of GPF they withdrew fraudulently to the teachers concerned.
He further said that the outfit will pay special attention to some Departments like PWD, IFCD, Power, Health and Family Welfare, CADA, Agriculture, PHED to check whether funds sanctioned by the Government for people's welfare are being utilised properly or not.
He further cautioned that individuals/officials found misappropriating public fund will be awarded befitting punishment without prior warning.
Tiger said that SP Wangthoi Anal and Md Abdul Hakim will be handed over to their respective families after reprimanding them in accordance to the rules of PREPAK.
The two accused also accepted the charges levelled against them before the media persons.
They pledged they will not ever indulge in such criminal activities again.
