Time for accelerating progress of theatre in society: Gaikhangam

It is high time for people working in theatre/drama to enhance the influence of the art form which has been giving valuable education to the people through its fine artistic works on the society, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam who also holds the portfolio of Home.
The Dy CM was speaking during the World Theatre Day function observed by Theatre Centre, Manipur at the auditorium of Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU), Imphal West today.
Attending as the chief guest, Gaikhangam observed that the rich art and culture is the mirror of the society and asserted that it along with sports is making the State proud.
The art & culture and theatre of the State have its own unique values differentiating it from other lands.
The two art forms are enough to introduce the State of Manipur to the world, the Dy CM maintained.

Noting that there is no caste, creed and religion in culture; Gaikhangam expressed that influence of culture is also felt even in minds and souls of abnormal people.
People who are very much deep into art & culture have no place for violence and crime in their minds.
Theatre/drama and culture go hand in hand, the Dy CM added.
Saying that books give knowledge and education to the people while cinema which is an integral part of culture shapes a society through its audio & visual effects, Gaikhangam called upon the people working in the field of theatre/drama to enhance its presence in the society.
Along with felicitating BJC Sharma and Wareppa Naba who were honored with Natya Ratna Award recently, various awards given yearly by Theatre Centre, Manipur were also presented to its recipients during the function.
Lalit Ningsing Khudol Award 2014 was conferred to P Ibohal while Kh Ranabir was honored with Cosmo Award 2014 .
Nungsi Award 2014 was presented to renowned theatre artiste, Nandakumar Moirangthem.
Today's observance function was also attended by Wareppa Naba, chairperson of Theatre Centre, Manipur and Th Biswajit, MLA Thongju Constituency as president and guest of honor respectively.
