Imphal, August 17:
In pursuit of their demand to grant district status to Sadar Hills, the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has decided to picket Government offices including educational institutions from August 20 till August 25.Speaking to reporters today, SHDDC president H Guite informed that a decision to this effect was adopted during a joint meeting attended by three MLAs of Sadar Hills, representatives of Kuki Inpi, KSO Sadar Hills, village chiefs, Pradhans and ex-Pradhans.
The agitation to picket Government offices will be relaxed for educational institutions from August 23.Commenting on the Government initiative to hold Panchayat elections in Sadar Hills, H Guite cautioned that such initiative will be disastrous.
He remarked that it is illegal and irrational to install two systems of local selfgovernments in a particular area.
As such the joint meeting decided to boycott the forthcoming Panchayat elections totally and the people have resolved not to cast votes in the Panchayat elections.
If anyone is found filing nomination paper, all benefits entitled to them from Sadar Hills TD Block will be forfeited, Guite disclosed.
In case the State Government refuses to pay heed to the agitation and demand of the SHDDC, more intense forms of agitation will be launched shortly.
The planned agitation from August 20 comes after the ultimatum the Committee served to the State Government demanding conversion of Sadar Hills into a full fledged revenue district by August 15 last.
