A two-day meeting of the 8th North East Regional Power Committee kicked off here at Classic Hotel, Imphal today.
Over 32 engineers of power departments of the North Eastern states of the country and officials of the Power Grid Corporation of India are taking part in the meeting.
The meeting was held under the joint chair of the Member Secretary of the North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC), BK Jain and Chief Engineer of state Electricity Department, N Sharat.
The agenda of the meeting hosted by the Electricity Department, Manipur, according to officials, is to discuss ways to increase power generation capacity, transmission loss and improvement of distribution system and up gradation of the power stations in the region.
The meeting will draft a joint recommendation for improving the power supply system of the north eastern states, officials said adding that on the first day of the meeting today engineers of region expressed their willingness to co-operate in taking up projects in their respective states.
Engineers of seven north eastern state, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and host Manipur are taking part in the meeting apart from officials and engineers of the Power Grid Co-operation India.
The meeting also followed up the agendas of the recently held 7th TCC Meeting and application of micro wave linking system of power for improving the power distribution system in the region.
It also discussed modification of the power distribution system of the NE region and sending for training in foreign countries.
The matter of pending clearance by the Mizoram government in the construction of multi-purpose Tapaimukh Hydro Electricity Project and construction of 132 KV Imphal (PG), second circuit were also tabled in the meeting.
Assam's refusal to sign the Bulk Power Transmission even after all other states of the region have signed was also put up for discussion and it was resolved put pressure on Assam to sign it without any delay.
The meeting will conclude with a function at the same venue in which Manipur Chief Minister, O Ibobi Singh and Power ministers of other states will be taking part in the concluding day tomorrow.
