Even as schools and educational establishments re-opened in Imphal area after a four month lull, the Directorate of Education (S) has revised the school academic calendar for this year.
As per the revised calendar, the new academic session, 2010-11, shall start from April 1 .

The State Government has stipulated that all Government, Government aided and private schools under the Department of Education (S) shall abide by it, failing which they will be liable to appropriate action like disciplinary actions, derecognition and stoppage of grant-n-aid etc.
As per the revised calendar, classes 1 to X will start from April 1, class XI from July 1 and class XII from April 1 .

The Government has also revised the rate of school fees.
Besides stipulating that any kind of Government fees shall not be levied from students up to Class VIII, instructions have been issued that non-Government fees are to be fixed by Head Masters/Principals in consultation with ZEOs/DIs concerned.
Admission fee too should be taken only once as long as a student remains in the school and not every year.
It can be levied only when a student is transferred to another institute.
According to the revised rate of school fees for Class IX-X, the admission fee will be Rs 20, Dev fee Rs 20, library fee Rs 10, tuition fee Rs 5 with the total at Rs 55 .
The fee for Class XI-XII (Science) has been fixed at Rs 80 while for Arts in the same classes the amount is fixed at Rs 75 .
The Education Department (S) has also instructed that all schools should submit the list of students of Class VIII with full particulars to the Zonal Education offices/DIs concerned on or before June 15 this year.
Accordingly the ZEOs/DIs concerned should submit the list to the Board of Secondary Education on or before the last working day of June this year, said the Education Department.
While the Government has worked out the fee structure of all its schools for the next academic session, private schools in Imphal area are yet to come to a decision on the fees for the four months, during which no schools were opened, due to the boycott call.
A number of private schools are also yet to decide on the salary of its teaching faculty as well as staff for the said four months.
The All Manipur Schools Transporter Association had on the other hand decided to charge 50 pc of the fees.
For schools under the BSEM, the fees will be charged till November while for CBSE schools, it will be charged till December.
With schools re-opening today, a large number of school kids in their school uniforms could be seen going to their respective institutions either by school vans or buses.
Schools in the Imphal area were closed from September 9 last year following the class boycott call demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister.
