Imphal, May 08:
In a welcome gesture, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has taken up the initiative of repairing the roads in Aimol village of Chandel district which have been lying neglected since the Second World War.
Volunteers of UCM joined hands with the villagers and gravelling of the roads started from today.
A strong team of 55 UCM volunteers and Meira Paibis led by UCM president K Langamba extended their helpiong hands to the villagers in repairing the weather-beaten roads extending from Aimol Chingnunghut to Kombirei Road and from Aimol Tampak to Kekrumakhong.
The total length of the two roads is said to be around 5 kms.
Speaking to mediapersons at the occasion, Langamba lamented that the two roads have always been neglected by the Govt even if they were recognised by the PWD.
UCM has taken up the initiative of repairing the two roads at its own cost and energy with the main objective of strengthening peaceful co-existence among the people.
Former president of Aimol Students' Union T Okhup Aimol informed that the two roads have been existing before the Second World War and before the construction of the National Highway 39, the two roads were used for going to Moreh.
While appealing to the Government for taking up necessary measures for black-topping of the said roads, Okhup also expressed gratitude to UCM for helping in repairing of the neglected roads.
On the other hand, the black-topping work of the 2-km long road extending from Pallel to Aimol Khunyai has been reportedly stalled even before covering the first half a kilometre since 2005.In this regard, Aimol Students Union and Aimol Khangoi Area Development Committee have announced their decision of launching intense agitation if the Govt do not resume the work and complete it at the earliest possible.
