The Chief Electoral Officer, manipur has formalise schedules for bye-elections in Khangabok and Khundrakpam assembly constituencies which would be held on June 2.With the bye-election notification coming into effect from May 8, last date for submission of nomination papers is fixed on May 15 while dates of scrutiny and withdrawal of candidature would May 16 and 18 respectively.
Moreover, June 5 has been set aside for counting of votes.
It may be mentioned that Khangabok AC fell vacant after Okram Ibobi Singh resigned while death of Th Navakumar Singh necessitated re-election in Khundrakpam AC.
In all 32 polling stations would be established for exercise of franchise by 29,110 electorates, including 15,544 females, in the Khangabok AC whereas a total of 23,156 electorates, out of which 11,804 are female voters, would choose representative of Khundrakpam kendra.
The AC would have 28 polling stations.
political organisations have already geared up for the bye-polls as MPP and NCP had reached an understanding to put up common candidate in both the ACs with NCP agreeing to support MPP's L Jatra in Khangabok and regional party to reciprocate the national political party's nominee in Khundrakpam.
The BJP has convened a meeting of its State Election Committee tomorrow to decide on its candidature, if any, for both seats.
On the otherhand, the Congress party inspite of keeping under wrap its nominee for Khundrakpam AC speculations are rife that Konsam Tomba would contest on the party ticket.
Tomba was placed third in the 9th assembly poll held in February, this year.
