President Abdul Kalam is set to arrive here on October 16 to attend the 10th convocation of Manipur University as well as to keep a date with students of a school situated at Churachandpur.
The President will visit the school as per an invitation extended to him by the Principal of the school during a meeting at Delhi some time back.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, an official source informed that the President will attend the 10th convocation of MU and interestingly this will be the fist convocation of the varsity after it was converted to a Central University some time back.
Significantly the President is also the Chancellor of MU.
One interesting facet of the proposed visit of the President is the decision to visit the Bungmuol High School following a personal invitation by its Principal Gin Gangte during a meeting with the President some time back.
President Kalam will proceed to the Bungmuol school in a helicopter and interact with the students, said the source.
During his stay here, the President is also scheduled to visit the Exotic Juice Limited at Mao and inspect the work taken up there for Passion fruit cultivation.
He will interact with the staff and the proprietor of the firm.
This will be the second visit of the President to Manipur and he is scheduled to fly in here from a special aircraft from Assam on October 16 at 9.20 am, said the source.
From Tulihal airport, Kalam will proceed to Manipur University by a helicopter and later the President will fly to Churachandpur and Mao by a chopper.
Kalam will leave for Mizoram on the same day to attend a convocation function of Aizawl University.
He will spend a night there.
In connection with the scheduled visit of the President Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh today convened a meeting to study the preparations to be taken up.
MU authority is gearing up for the visit of the President.
Higher Education Commissioner visited the university today to take stock of the preparations being taken up there.
