Imphal, October 05:
The All Manipur AntiDrug Association (AMADA) in association with the Unemployed Pharmacists' Association of Manipur (UPAM) has decided to monitor pharmaceutical drugs, licences and validity of pharmacies.
The decision to this effect was adopted after a joint discussion with UPAM and after taking into account of the increasing cases of narcotic drug sale in pharmacies.
During the proposed drive, the licenses of the pharmacists would be checked whether they are genuine or not, or whether they are valid or invalid.
Moreover AMADA volunteers would see to it that the drugs selling in a pharmacy are in accordance to the schedule provided in the licence and that the registration certificate of each and every pharmacy is authentic.
A statement issued by AMADA further appealed to all the pharmacists to display their licenses and regis tration certificates and not to sell drugs without prescription of doctors.
It also appealed to the authority not to issue license without proper verification.
While cautioning all the non-abiding pharmacies, it asserted that the counsellors of drug de-addiction centres should not prescribe drugs.
Saying that AMADA does not prohibit use of narcotic drugs in de-addiction centres, it maintained that only authentic doctors should prescribe such drugs.
On the other hand, five individuals have been held with 200 litres of country made liquor by AMADA Nongdam local unit.
The seized liquor was consigned to flames today at Nongren Bazar, mentioned the statement.
