Imphal, January 05 2010:
Undue delay in distributing benefits of the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Programme (IHSDP) has irked the beneficiaries of Thoubal Municipal Council.
Speaking to media persons at Thoubal Athokpam Keithel today, secretary of the beneficiary's association Brojen said that 816 beneficiaries belonging to 18 wards of Thoubal Municipal Council were selected in 2006 .
In accordance to a notification issued by Thoubal Municipal Council in this regard, the beneficiaries laid foundation of the houses to be built under the scheme.
Even as it was agreed that 25 per cent of the Rs one lakh entitled to each beneficiary should be paid, the beneficiaries are yet to receive this amount, Brojen decried.
Although the matter has been highlighted to the Chief Minister repeatedly through memoranda, nothing has been done to avail the benefits of the scheme to the beneficiaries.
Drawing attention of the higher authority into the matter, Brojen said that the association has prepared to launch intense agitation in case benefits of the scheme are not made available to the beneficiaries within five days.
A meeting of the beneficiaries was also held at Thoubal Athokpam today under the aegis of the Integrated Housing and Slum Development Scheme Beneficiary Association.
The meeting resolved to boycott incumbent councillors of Thoubal Municipal Council and also not to elect them in the next election.
