Imphal, January 05 2010:
The All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has expressed strong opposition and disagreement to the government order issued on December 19, 2009 appointing S Geeta Devi, as the chairperson of the Council of Higher Secondary Education.
According to a press release issued by the secretary AMCTA, this appointment has come about even as the organization had been pressing the government to review or revoke the order dated April 24, 2009 appointing the same person as the chairperson-in-charge.
The release went on to state that there is no provision in the Manipur Higher Secondary Education, Manipur (Amendment) Act 1995 for the appointment of an addl director to the post of chairman.
The move to further amend the said act without any consultation with all the stakeholders is clearly done for the benefit of a few interested persons alleged the press note.
Such a move, AMCTA felt will do grave harm to the future pillars of our society.
AMTCA further appealed to the legislatures across party lines not to pass the bill when it is tabled in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The Council of Higher Secondary Education, opined AMCTA is not confined to schools but is a gateway to higher education where university and college teachers have been making valuable contributions and it should not be taken lightly.
