BSF Deputy Commandant hurt in bomb attack

Imphal, October 01 2012:
A Deputy Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) sustained injuries in a bomb explosion near Haotabi along Imphal-Dimapur highway under Heingang police station in Imphal East district this morning.
Meanwhile, the proscribed PREPAK has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack and this was informed to press by its publicity secretary Sanju Oinam.
A police source informed that the bomb planted under the highway median exploded at about 10.20 am when Lima Temjen, Deputy Commandant of BSF's 155th Bn based at Nagaland was passing by the spot along with his escorts in a Bolero jeep and Swaraj Mazda truck.
The explosion inflicted injuries on the Deputy Commandant.
Lima arrived at Imphal from Silchar earlier this morning.
From Imphal airport, he was heading to Nagaland along with his escorts when the bomb exploded at Haotabi.
It is reported that Lima is a native of Nagaland.

The impact of the explosion was so powerful that the jeep in which Lima was travelling was damaged exten- sively.
Shrapnels injured the Deputy Comman-dant on the left hand and left ear.
He was immediately taken to BSF Sector headquarters at Koirengei where first aid was administered.
From there, he was referred to RIMS.
It is said that Lima is out of danger.
Two other BSF personnel were also left dazed for sometime by the thundering sound of the explosion.
The highway median was also damaged under the impact of the explosion.
Notably, BSF Sector Hqs is located quite near the blast site in addition to presence of 165th Territorial Army at Koirengei Old Airfield.
Apart from them, Hqs IG AR (South) is located a little distance away from the site of the bomb blast.
There has been a spurt in bomb attack and only yesterday, PLA launched a bomb attack on a convoy of Assam Rifles between Khumbong and Moidangpok along NH 37 though there was no casualty.
