Imphal, May 02 2010:
The Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) has evinced desire to sit together and bring a negotiated settlement to the ugly situation arising out of the acts of blasphemy done at the shrine of Ibudhou Pakhangba at their Wangoo Laingoubi camp by Borayangbi villagers.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, UFO central general secretary L Loyumba expressed apprehension that the situation may turn worse and go out of hand, if not negotiated without delay.
General secretary Y Meiraba said that UFO stands for universal peace and love and that it believed in settling issues through peaceful dialogue.
He also appealed for release of their colleague H Manglem who has been pulled up by Kumbi police.
Rejecting the statement given earlier by Borayangbi Gram Panchayat Pradhan Noor Rehman, Meiraba said that Manglemba beat up one Rafi as he was shocked and infuriated on seeing Rafi lying on the altar of Ibudhou Pakhangba in utter disrespect to the god worshipped by a community.
The UFO would like to negotiate with the villagers of Borayangbi and come to an amicable settlement and work together to re-build the structures burnt down by Borayangbi villagers, he added.
