The 36th annual general body meeting of All manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) held yesterday at Manipur Press Club has approved resignation of the president S Hemant from the top post of the scribes' body.
While the president tendered his resignation paper owing to certain controversies during his tenure, the AMWJU general secretary Y Henry also stepped down voluntarily owning moral responsibility for financial irregularity.
The general body also endorsed vice-president Khogendra Khomdram and joint secretary N Phillips as in-charge president and general secretary respectively with immediate effect till the present term expires on April 30, 2011 .
In other decisions adopted by the general body, the standing Committee of AMWJU has been entrusted to finalise the inclusion of 58 fresh members who have been recommended by the Screening Committee, to discuss application by another batch of member aspirants and consent to the statement of account upto April 30, 2010 .
A significant feature of the statement of account relates to the balance amount of Rs 1,99,705 in the form of bank deposit and in hard cash out of a total income of Rs 7,82,699 and expenditure of Rs 5,82,994 till date.
Earlier, the meeting began with members present observing two minutes of silence for to pay respect to Toknga daily's staff late Taorem Loken. Loken passed away some months back following an illness.
