Making its intention clear of canvassing maximum support for the independent candidate Hanjabam Jayadeva alias Gandhi in the by-election to Yaiskul Assembly Constituency, the Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh has declared that it would begin intense campaign in the all the 28 polling stations of the assembly segment.
Talking to reporters at the Nityaipat Chuthek office of the BJP today, its president Dr Haobam Borbabu disclosed of minutely discussing role of the saffron party to ensure favourable mandate for the independent candidate in the December 19 hustings.
The meeting, said to have been held at the private residence of former Chief Minister RK Dorendra was also attended by the BJP's North Eastern Zonal secretary (Organisation) Chandrasekhar Rao and other top party leaders, said Dr Borbabu adding that among other decisions, the meeting resolved to intensify poll campaigns with particular emphasis on polling station-wise canvassing.
It may be noted that apart from the BJP, the MPP and left parties such as the CPI (M), All India Forward Block and Revolutionary Socialist Party had also announced support to Jayadeva and have consequently kick-started poll campaigning for the independent candidate.
Reiterating that Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh's comments during the observance of Disability Day is in violation of election code of conduct, Dr Borbabu conveyed that based on the complaint lodged to the Election Commission of India the Commission has begun investigation/examination of the CM's utterances.
informing that opposition leader LK Advani had been intimated to discuss prevailing law and order uncertainty in Manipur sparked by the BT Road in the Lok Sabha, the former State Assembly Speaker expressed confidence of the situation in Manipur to figure prominently at the floor of the Parliament.
Chandrasekhar Rao, who was also present at the briefing conveyed that his three-day visit to Imphal is to oversee State BJP's organisational election as well as to take personal stock of BJP's preparedness for the Yaiskul AC by-poll.
The secretary further announced that election would be held on December 15 to elect a new BJP Manipur Pradesh president for which submission of nomination paper and withdrawal would be entertained till December 14 .
Regarding election no BJP's national president, Rao said polling would be in January next.
Noting that failure to resolve the ongoing turmoil in the State due to sustained agitations against the BT Road incident had been having its most severest impact on the student community, he called upon the agitating bodies to opt for other mode of movement to ensure the students do endure more suffering.
Rao opined that NGOs too have a more important role to play in bringing the situation back to normal and help the students return to their classroom.
He also confided that Central Government would be asked to stop supply of power from the Loktak Project to other States so as to enable people of Manipur enjoy regular electricity.
