In the second day hearing of the Independent People's Tribunal on Torture, Extra-Judicial Execution and Forced Disappearance today, sister of deceased Ch Sanjit said that the government sent emissary to negotiate the case of Sanjit with Rs 10 lakh with the promise of a government job to one of her members.
The hearing of the three day-long tribunal began yesterday at the conference hall of Retreat House, Mantripukhri.
Taking part in the hearing as family of victim, Ch Nandi, sister of Sanjit who was killed by the police commandos in alleged fake encounter on July 23 at Khwairamband Bazar, further deposed that government sent emissary with the proposal of paying Rs one crore to agitating JAC and family to end the ongoing agitation.
Nandi recalling the incident of July 23 in which younger brother was killed by the police commandos said that he was working as assistant in the Raj Polyclinic, North AOC after he was arrested in 2000 as member of an underground organisation.
He worked at the private hospital after freed from jail.
Regarding the killing of his brother, they requested the Imphal City police station to register a case.
However, they refused to do so.
It was only after court interference, the FIR case was registered.
Husband of deceased Rabina, the other victim of July 23 incident, Thokchom Chinglensana who also deposed in the hearing his wife was killed by the bullet of the police commandos while she was buying banana from a roadside vender at BT road.
He also complained that on his prayer, Manipur Human Rights Commission registered a case and investigation initiated but it was stopped by government intervention through high court.
Gangarani, wife of another alleged fake encounter hailing from Bamon Kampu who is visibly disabled related her struggle for life to bring up her children.
The tribunal is organized jointly by the Human Rights Law Network and Extra Judicial Execution Victims Family Association, Manipur in association with Kanglei Young Women Socio Cultural Organisation, Human Rights Initiative, Human Rights Alert and Eastern Rural Development Centre.
The hearing was conducted before the former Judge of Kerala High Court KK Usha, DK Basu, a former Judge of Calcutta High Court and Moloy Sengupta, Acting chief justice of Sikkim High Court.
