Health Minister and member of CPI Central Committee Ph Parijat ,while speaking at the occasion of 113th birth anniversary of Hijam Irabot, has called for a leader like Irabot to bring together all the armed UG groups operating in the State.
Participating in the observance function held under the aegis of Irabot Celebration Committee (ICC) at Mapal Kangjeibung here today as one of the presidium members, Parijat recalled after Irabot went underground and while still remaining hiding in Burma, he had worked towards unification of all the them UG groups in Manipur.
Today, there are too many UG groups in Manipur each trying to assert their respective rights over the other.
In order to bring together all these UG groups, we need a leader like Irabot, Parijat said.
He further said that the greatness of Irabot is being recognised increasingly after his death.
Inspite of being the son-in-law of the king and he could lead a life of luxury, Irabot dedicated his life to the cause of the welfare of the common people.
He was also a leader who worked for safeguarding the integrity of the hill and the valley.
It was also to the credit of Irabot who led the Communist Party in launching a mass movement that the proposal for creation of Purvachal adopted in 1948 had to be withdrawn, Parijat added.
Chairman of Control Commission, CPI Manipur State Council M Ibohal presided over the observance function which was also attended by president of Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur N Binoy; vice president L Lalit; former director of College Development Council, MU Prof Y Mohendro; general secretary of IPSO Prof L Sadananda; patron of All Manipur Nupi Marup M Kadambeni; chairperson of Manipur State Commission for Women Dr Ch Jamini; MANIDCO chairman N Mangi; MLA of Sekmai A/C Dr H Borajao and MLA of Wabagai A/C Usham Deben as presidium members.
In connection with the birth anniversary celebration, a march past competition in five different categories had also been conducted.

A procession carrying a life size portrait of Irabot had also been taken out from Irabot Bhavan to the Mapal Kangjeibung to mark the occasion.
The birth anniversary of Irabot had also been celebrated under the aegis of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra Clubs' Co-ordinating Committee at the ground of Kodompokpi Mamang Leikai Senior Club.
Additional Director of Education (S) Hareshwar Goswami and president of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra Clubs Co-ordinating Committee Kangjam Bidhu Khuman were respectively the chief guest and the functional president of the event which was also graced by retired headmaster Thongbam Jugeshore Khuman and State Kala Akademi awardee Konjengbam Biren as guests of honour.
As part of the function, prizes were also presented to the meritorious students of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C.
