Imphal, September 30 2009:
A group of protestors of the JACs against killing of Rabina and Sanjit stormed and hurled shoes at the private residence of IFCD Minister N Biren, who is also the spokesperson of the State Government, located at Luwangsangbam around 2 pm today as part of the agitations demanding resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi from his post.
The Minister was not present at his residence at the time of the shoe-hurling protest which was launched today under the aegis of the JACs against the killing of Rabina and Sanjit.
He was said to be at his office during the time of the incident.
The protestors who went to Luwangshangbam in auto-rickshaws and Tata Magic vans began flinging the shoes towards the Minister's house as soon as they reached the gate.
Protestors were also said to have shouted 'anti-Congress' slogans at the gate for just about a short minute or two before making a quick retreat in their vehicles.
IRB personnel on guard were heard shouting back at the protestors who stormed the minister's residence.
No report of damage or injury has, however, been received.
Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by the JACs after the incident pointed out that though Congress has been playing a credible role in Indian politics, the ideals of democracy are sidelined in the state in the wake of the people's outcry against the Khwairamband incident and the subsequent demands.
The statement questioned whether it is more important to spare Ibobi and the police commandos than to deliver justice to the chorus of disapproval of over 25 lakh people.
Fraternity of India can also break, like the collapse of Soviet Union, due to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Central leaders' lack of concern to the fake encounter killings in the state and other atrocities.
Lamenting that the Central leaders of the Congress did not pay enough attention to the present uproar of the people, the statement charged that this indicates the indifferent attitude of the Centre to the people of the state.
