Assam Rifles was reported to have compensated Rs one lakh today for allegedly assaulting a woman, wife of a person said to be former NSCN(IM) cadre last night at Hundung village of Ukhrul district.
The incident to the woman occurred last night around 10 pm when troops of 17 Assam Rifles attempted to abduct a former cadre was strongly objected by his wife, the report said.
In the effort to overcome the objection, a masked man (zoro) accompanied the troops hold up her hands and twisted resulting to the fracture of her hands.
The masked man also shut up her mouth when she tried to alarm the neighbourhoods, reports said.
Irate villagers mostly womenfolk rose up against the attack to the woman to hold a public meeting today at Tankhul Ngana Long ground, Ukhrul district headquarter.
The matter was also brought up to the notice of the civil organisations based in the district who attended the meeting.
However, the matter was subsided when the troops of 17 Assam Rifles led by its Commanding Officer came at the meeting place and offered apology to the people and agreed to compensate Rs one lakh to the injured woman, the report received from Ukhrul said.
