The fortnight observation protesting violence against women which in the state too, organised by the Women Action for Development (WAD), like in other part of the globe concluded today with a function held at the conference hall of the Hotel Tampha, North AOC.
The concluding function was graced by ex-MLA Laishom Ibomcha as chief guest, former principal of Manipur College, L Sadananda and consultant of the United NGO Mission, Manipur as guests of honour and executive member of the Manipur Voluntary Health Association, N Sharat as president.
In his speech as chief guest, Laishom Ibomcha charged that benefits of funds released by the Central government for the welfare of the poor widows are taking by the women of the rich families.
Among them were the women serving as teachers and contractors daughters in-law includes, he alleged and appealed NGOs to interfere to it and help in getting the benefits by the poor widows.
Prof L Sadananda observed that in the place where there is no security for the common people and conflict riddled, women are the victims of torture.
Now, the concept of looking down women in the society need to be rectified, he added.
Women role in the society is indispensable.
That is why a country is called by its people as motherland, OJ Meetei observed.
But, till violence against women is going on unabated, he lamented stating that those people who ill-treat women can be said as imperfect men.
In this presidential address of the function, N Sharat said that there are lots of women are the victims of other forms of violence other than that of conflict situation.
Their sufferings are remaining without knowing by the masses.
The find a way to relief them from the clutch of such violence is a must.
On the occasion, prizes of the painting, debating, slogan competition etc.
which were held as part of the fortnight observation protesting against violence against women were distributed.
The series of programmes conducted during the observation from November 25 till today (December 12) was also read out by the WAD secretary, M Sobita.
As part of the observation, the body held public meeting cum awareness meetings at various places across the state.
