New Delhi, December 13 2009:
Violence against people from the north east has doubled in the national capital with the crime graph showing a sharp rise in heinous activities like murder, rape and molestation.
Nineteen cases targeting people from the north-east were reported across the city so far as against nine last year prompting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to "instruct" local authorities to be "more sensitive" to problems of the NorthEasterners.
Three cases of murder of north-east people were reported this year, including the sensational killing of a Manipur girl Ramchanphy Hongray (19) by an IIT PhD scholar Pushpam Kumar Sinha for not entertaining his sexual advances.
While the trials of the three cases are pending, a senior police official said investigations in the third case are yet to be concluded.
