Imphal, April 22 2009:
REACTING TO the statement of the MUSU Election Committee statement which appeared in local dailies today, K Ranjita, the presidential candidate who missed filing her nomination due to the reported anomalies, said that the election committee has committed a hundred-fold faults by trying to shield a mistake.
K Ranjita contended that the matter is not about the time limit between the election notification and the last date of submission of nomination but it is a matter of the election committee making it mandatory to produce original Class XII pass certificate in filing nominations which is a novel development.
Ranjita reasons how students who completed his/her graduation from other outside Universities could obtain their original certificates within a short period of 2-3 days gap.
She further asks how students from far off places could acquire their original certificates within such short time when the date also coincides with Parliamentary elections in the outer constituency.
On the election Committee's stand that no one has approached the committee formally to validate the provisional certificates, Ranjita recalled that some students' leaders and intending candidates who won't be able to file their nominations on the stipulated date for the given reasons have approached the Election Committee to validate the provisional certificate as was done on earlier occasions or to extend the date of the last date of submission of the nominations.
This apart, she mentioned, the VC, Registrar, and Dean of Students' Welfare have been approached to work out a solution over the matter and plead with them but none bother to consider the plea.
How dare the Election Committee said now that no one approached them or submitted application formally to legalise the Class XII original pass certificate when the VC, Registrar and Dean of Students were approached, Ranjita asks categorically.
She also asks what the term 'formal' really mean to the Election Committee while adding whether the EC had incorporated in the election notification that a formal written complaint letter should be sent to the committee in case of any inconvenience.
Asserting that the election committees of MUSU have been set up with provision from the MUSU Constitutional Article VI (6) since long time back she questions in no certain terms whether act of violation committed by the EC by invalidating the Class XII provisional certificate.
She added that the MUSU constitution does not grant power to the EC to violate the MUSU Conventions.
Demanding to know the statement of the EC that said the Class X and XII original certificates have been obligatory to prevent further cheats from the students, Ranjita said that this shows that a conspiracy is hatched by trying to forcibly correct the wrong deeds.
Has the EC been formed by MUSU President Narayan to enjoy power for another month? Does the EC has the authority to verify the authenticity of students after the MU authority admits them? Who gave the authority or power to do so?, Ranjita emphatically asks.
Does the Election Committee guarantee that no other students except the candidates, proposers and seconders can tarnish the image of the University? She further poses while saying that the act is humiliating the students of the University.
Ranjita categorically pointed out that the intention of the EC is to forcibly violate the rights of the students and a conspiracy to elect some favoured candidates uncontested which is not acceptable to the students' community.
