Imphal, July 19 2012:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland)-ZYF (AMN) has condemned the physical attack carried out by Sports Authority of India (SAI) students who are presently staying at the Khuman Lampak Sports complex upon 16 students who came from Tamenglong to participate in the ongoing Inter School Subroto Mukherjee Footbal Tournament.
ZYF, in a statement, alleged that SAI students numbering more than 50 came with sticks to Room No 112 of the new Hostel, where the students from Tamenglong were staying, broke the door of the room and beat up the students at around 9.20 pm yesterday.
In the said incident one Master Tobia Gonmei s/o Lungkhiam Gonmei of Thiulon village suffered injuries.
He complaint of breathing difficulty and painful sensation all over his body.
One student, Meisibou, also complained of pain in waist-abdomen area.
During the attack not a single person including the coach were spared and they all received different degree of physical pains.
It is reported that the students who are seriously injured were taken to JNIMS Hospital at around 9.50 pm, and only to come back at 1.30 am to the hostel.
"In spite of this ugly incident, the matter did not widely come out for public information and as such there is doubtful that the authority is trying to conceal the incident.
It is reported by the students during inquiry by ZYF team that the police team came to the hostel and picked up six attackers.
But they were released after sometime.
The most surprising thing is that the place is considered highly sensitive zone with security personnel moving round the clock apart from the existent of IRB Camp within the Khuman Lampak Sport complex.
As such it is a shameful to allow such incident right under their nose.
It is also better for the organizing committee to cancel the tournament if the authority concerned cannot provide necessary safety and security measures for the innocent students whose life are already in dangers" ZYF stated.
ZYF further demanded to book the persons involved in the incident within 48 hours counting from 6pm of July 19 and warned of take up different forms of democratic agitations if the concerned authorities failed to fulfill the demand.
