Ukhrul, July 19 2012:
Three family members including two women were seriously injured when a bomb exploded at the residential house of PS.
Boonson at Phungreitang's Mayotang in Ukhrul Thursday night.
Locals said the blast took place at about 8.30 pm when the family members of Ps.
Boonson, a village level worker in the SDO office here and a native of Maichon village in the western side of Ukhrul district, were with some relatives. The victims included Boonson's wife PS.
Ruth, his son PS.
Derek and his daughter in-law PS.
Chaimi.
They were immediately rushed to Ukhrul District Hospital for treatment.
However, as their conditions were serious, the district administration later rushed them to Imphal for further treatment in two ambulance vehicles along with security escorts at around 10.45pm.At the time of the blast, Boonson was not at home as he was away meeting some friends in the neighbourhood.
The bomb reportedly landed on the tin roof of the house, thus resulting in a more lethal impact.
Police arrived and had taken a spot enquiry.
It was, however, not confirmed what sort of bomb caused the blast.
Injured Derek is an AR personnel and currently at home on leave.
Locals said that some persons fled away in motorbike after the blast and suspected that it could be the handiwork of some miscreants.
However, they said the motive behind the incident could not be ascertained as of now.
Sources informed that the reason could be due to some personal rivalry.
Earlier in the month of February, according to local sources, some masked miscreants numbering about seven came and made an abortive attempt to attack the family.
But, the alert locals chased them away.
