A WATER purification plan with "Jalmani standard alone drinking water purification system" technology has been launched today at Konthoujam village in Imphal west for the first in the entire north eastern region of the country in a function graced by Manipur Assembly Speaker S Budhichandra as chief guest and PHED minister TN Haokip as president.
Speaking at the function held at Konthoujam Makha Junior High School, chief guest S Budhichandra said that safe drinking water is the basic need for healthy living while observing that water is the basic need of the all living things in this world.
He also said that due to the deforestation and coming up of industries, the world is getting warmer and this impact of global warming may one day lead to the scarcity.
So, he added, it is a must to take up steps to preserve water.
He also said that Jalmani technology is one of the best plans for water preservation.
Knowing this Centre has earmarked Rs 200 crores for taking up this plan in a wide scale throughout the country.
As a component of the plan there is a plan to take the water purification plan in 276 places in the state.
He also announced that Manipur can open the purification plan for the first time in the entire north eastern region of the country.
PHED minister, HN Haokip while speaking at the launching function said that the plan opened today is among the 276 centre to be open in the state.
Water is energy, so everybody must preserve it.
In the launching function many entertainment programmes were also stage by the students of the Konthoujam Makha Junior High School.
Satisfied with the performance of the students, Speaker Budhichandra and minister TN Haokip gave them Rs.3000 each.
With regard to the opening of the water purification plan there, an official of the PHED said that the plan has been taken up with 100 percent funding from the Centre.
He also added that the authority is targeting to complete construction of all the 276 centres in the state by December 31 this year.
