Imphal, January 29 2009:
PERSONNEL OF 30 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 57 Mountain Division today organised a free medical camp and dental camp for the people of Singhat and neighbouring villages.
According to a PIB (Defence Wing) statement, it was the fourth health camp conducted by the Army in Churachandpur District this month.
About 120-130 villagers were given medical treatment.
The team provided medicine to children and elders who were suffering from fever, water borne diseases, common cold and skin diseases, etc.
Singhat is the farthest sub-division of Churachandpur district along the Tiddim road and close to Myanmar border.
The area is under-developed due to poor road communication, lack of basic amenities like drinking water, helth cover and telecommunication, etc.
The PIB (DW) statement further informed that during the medical camp which started at 7 AM lasted till 5 PM.
Approximately 500 adults and 150 children attended.
Most of the villagers who came for treatment were very old and unable to go to district hospital at Churachandpur.
It was a good opportunity for them to get treatment in their own village itself, the statement added.
