The silver jubilee celebrations of 23 Assam Rifles which kick started on September 5 has concluded with much fanfare at its Shangshak headquarters today.
The main attraction of the celebration was the organising of a mela known as Meena Bazar.
Hundreds of people from nearby villages thronged to the mela venue and enjoyed various entertaining activities.
A medical camp was also organised as a part of the celebration.
Speaking to reporters, Commander of 23 AR, CD Singh said that the Unit has been extending helping hand to the people of Shangshak, Sangjing, Kosu, Leisi, Leiting, Phalang, Hangdung Gora and Sakok villages in all aspects.
Saying that the Unit hospital has been kept open for the villagers as well, the Commander said that there were even instances of delivering child in the hospital.
Programmes like free medical camps, pulse polio immunisation, vaccination, distribution of agriculture, horticulture, books and sports items are regularly organised for the welfare of the villagers, he added.
Organising of lecture and awareness programmes on different topics including HIV/AIDS, malaria, health, hygiene, family planning and legal rights are also the part their activities, he added.
The Unit had also extended helping hand to the victims of accidents occurred in nearby areas, he added.
Different programmes were also organised at the operational areas of Sagolmang, Litan and other Posts of the paramilitary Unit as well as a part of the silver jubilee celebrations of 23 Assam Rifles.
